Blair Castle is a 5 star visitor attraction which lies at the heart of Atholl Estates, one of Scotland’s best known Highland estates. It is situated in Blair Atholl at the north-bound entrance to the Cairngorm National Park. The castle dates to the 13th century and a visit will take you on a journey into the fascinating past of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story told here will take you from a visit by Mary Queen of Scots to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to the disaster of Culloden following Bonnie Prince Charlie's own stay in the castle. You'll hear how the lucky inheritance of a smuggler-infested island helped turn the castle into a comfortable home, and learn how Queen Victoria's famous stay led to the creation of Europe's only private army, the Atholl Highlanders. There are 30 rooms on full display.
The magnificent landscape of the 145,000 acre estate offers walking and cycling (on 45 miles of way marked trails) ranger activities, pony trekking, and country sports to suit most tastes and abilities.
